Active Directory

Active Directory = A Microsoft service that allows for the management and authentication of user accounts, computers, and other resources within a network.
AD = The abbreviation for Active Directory, which provides centralized management of users, computers, and network resources.
Directory service = A network service that stores and manages information about resources, such as users and devices, in a structured manner.
Identity management = The process of identifying and managing the rights and access of users and resources on a network.
User authentication = The process of verifying that a user is who they claim to be using authentication data such as passwords.
Domain controller = A server that manages Active Directory, user authentication, and access to network resources.
Access control = A mechanism that defines who can access certain resources and what level of permissions they have.
Group policies = A collection of rules and settings that administrators apply to control the behavior of users and computers on the network.
LDAP = Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, a protocol used to access and maintain directory services like Active Directory.
Organizational units (OUs) = Units within Active Directory used for grouping user accounts and other objects in a hierarchical manner.
Network security = The set of technical and administrative measures that protect the network and its resources from unauthorized access and attacks.
Domain management = The process of managing network domains, including the control of access to users, groups, and resources within those domains.
Active Directory administration = The management and maintenance of Active Directory, including user, group, and resource management.
Centralized authentication = The practice of using a central service, such as Active Directory, for authenticating users and granting access to network resources.
